Dunira Strategy is an independent marketing, PR and training consultancy with a focus on the sustainable development and environmental management of tourism. We deliver sustainable business solutions and have considerable international experience. Dunira's expertise lies in facilitating enduring partnerships between stakeholders and we have particular experience building local capacity for sustainable development through tourism. Our key strengths lie in developing and applying practical tools that promote sustainability in travel and tourism. To this end, our team of sustainable tourism consultants works with clients and partners in the public and private sectors and civil society in the UK and internationally.

Current activities include a number of strategic tourism plans, the design of a memorial artworks trail, feasibility studies for a spa and rural education centre, and development of professional training courses on ecotourism. Other projects involve revenue management, international marketing, corporate social responsibility, consumer market research and applying a methodology to promote participation by local communities in tourism management, as well as product development plans in the British Isles, Eastern Europe, South East Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Following Dunira's work last year on Sierra Leone's Tourism Master Plan, the World Bank has commissioned a consortium comprising Dunira, Dexis and BEST to devise a programme of social and environmental safeguards for the sustainable development of tourism in Sierra Leone.

Dunira has been appointed by Pakistan's Ministry of Environment to conduct a review of its protected areas and of the country's capacity to deliver ecotourism.

Dunira in association with the Scottish Institute of Sustainable Technology has delivered a study commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage to benchmark the sustainability of Scotland's tourism.

At London's Palestine Investment Forum led by Prime Ministers Gordon Brown and Salam Fayyad, Dunira's Benjamin Carey gave a presentation on the role of tourism in post-conflict destinations.

In India, Dunira contributed to two major initiatives, collaborating with the ICA through an international conference on the emerging role of co-operatives in tourism, and with FASTon a seminar addressing destination management safety and sustainability.

In partnership with Todd Associates (Scotland) and FJP (Gambia), Dunira has developed a national tourism strategy for the Government of Sierra Leone.

The Yemen Tourism Promotion Board has appointed Dunira as Yemen's PR representative in the UK and Ireland and will be organising a European roadshow later this year (Yemen Times).

Dunira has produced a baseline study for the UNWTO on tourism and migration offering a series of policy recommendations addressed to national tourism administrations and local destinations on the best ways to address opportunities and challenges related to sustainable migration and tourism development.

In collaboration with the Ural Institute for Tourism, Dunira is developing a programme aimed at capacity-building, tourism education and destination marketing in the Urals.

Appointed by National Geographic Traveler as an ecotourism expert, Dunira’s MD was part of the international panel that selected the Faroe Islands as the “least spoilt island destination in the world”.  He was subsequently invited to advise Faroese tourism managers on development opportunities and was the keynote speaker at the FlyFaroe conference in April.

Already chairman of Tourism Society Scotland, Dunira's managing director Benjamin Carey has been elected vice-chair of the Tourism Society.

Recently Dunira has delivered training courses and capacity building programmes for ecotourism operators and protected area managers in Bashkortostan, Iran, Laos, Lebanon, Nepal, Russia and Serbia in association with a range of stakeholders, including CEEWEB, ICRT, SNV and UNEP.  In recent months, Dunira’s MD has lectured on international marketing and revenue management at CEDERS in France and at Napier University in Scotland.
