Appointed by SNV Bhutan, Dunira has delivered a capacity building programme on responsible business management for 40 members of the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators. The Yemen Tourism Promotion Board has re-appointed Dunira as Yemen's PR representative in the UK and Ireland and will be organising a European roadshow later this year (Yemen Times). Contributions by Dunira’s Benjamin Carey and Christopher Imbsen have been published in the latest edition of The Ethical Travel Guide from Tourism Concern. Following Dunira's work last year on Sierra Leone's Tourism Master Plan, the World Bank has commissioned a consortium comprising Dunira, Dexis and BEST to devise social and environmental safeguards for the sustainable development of tourism.
Dunira has been appointed by Pakistan's Ministry of Environment to conduct a review of its protected areas and of the country's capacity to deliver ecotourism.
Dunira in association with the Scottish Institute of Sustainable Technology has delivered a study commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage to benchmark the sustainability of Scotland's tourism.
At London's Palestine Investment Forum led by Prime Ministers Gordon Brown and Salam Fayyad in 2008, Dunira's Benjamin Carey gave a presentation on the role of tourism in post-conflict destinations. UKTI has subsequently commissioned him to investigate tourism development opportunities in the West Bank.
In India, Dunira is working with the ICA to develop the concept of ‘co-operative tourism’ following its contribution to last year’s international conference on the emerging role of co-operatives in tourism, at which Dunira’s Christopher Imbsen was the keynote speaker.
In partnership with Todd Associates (Scotland) and FJP (Gambia), Dunira has developed a national tourism strategy for the Government of Sierra Leone.
Dunira produced a baseline study for the World Tourism Organization on tourism and migration offering a series of policy recommendations on the opportunities and challenges related to sustainable migration and tourism development. Appointed by National Geographic Traveler as an ecotourism expert, Dunira’s MD was part of the international panel that selected the Faroe Islands as the “least spoilt island destination in the world”. He was subsequently invited to advise Faroese tourism managers on development opportunities and was the keynote speaker at the FlyFaroe conference in 2007.
Also Chairman of Tourism Society Scotland, Dunira's managing director Benjamin Carey has been re-elected Vice Chair of the Tourism Society for a third consecutive term.
Recently Dunira has delivered training courses and capacity building programmes for ecotourism operators and protected area managers in Bashkortostan, Iran, Laos, Lebanon, Nepal, Russia and Serbia in association with a range of stakeholders, including CEEWEB, ICRT, SNV and UNEP. In recent months, Dunira’s MD has lectured on international marketing and revenue management at DEFI in France and at Edinburgh Napier and Queen Margaret Universities in Scotland.
